In September 2012, when the Datong--VIA International Division officially began its first academic year, the program enrolled 52 students---46 Chinese students and 6 American students from VIA's partner schools, Burlington High School and Champlain Valley High School. All students participated in Datong High School's freshman orientation and traditional character education program.
